24 year-old founder and CEO of SuperEyeSpex announces $250,000 donation of prescription eyeglasses to the students in the GTA, plans educational eye care seminars for Greater Toronto Area schools
Toronto, Ontario, June 24 2008 - 24 year-old Samuel Babarinde wondered why his prescription glasses were so expensive. After talking to his friends, he realized he wasn’t alone. So he decided to do something about it.
After a stint selling and eyeglass orders in an optical store in England, he relocated to Canada, developed a business plan and laid the groundwork for SuperEyeSpex. He invested over $10,000 of his own money by working several jobs and applied for a Canadian Youth Business Foundation (CYBF) loan, a government organization that assists young entrepreneurs by providing loans for their startup businesses. After initially being denied, Babarinde spent a year improving his business plan and was approved. He launched SuperEyeSpex in November of 2007.
SuperEyeSpex sells prescription and designer eyeglasses for significantly less than optical retailers. As an online retailer, costly retail overhead is eliminated, which allows SuperEyeSpex to pass on the savings to its customers. More information is available by visiting www.supereyespex.ca.
Retail prescription designer glasses with bifocal lens typically retail in stores such as Lenscrafters for $500. SuperEyeSpex offers the same product for $200, saving the customer over $300 in the process.
In June of 2008, Babarinde opened an office in Mississauga, for customers to check out and purchase eyeglasses. “Customers now have another convenient option to check out the glasses, as well as purchase them at the same time. They can meet the staff and discuss any questions they may have about our products,” said Babarinde.
Plans are underway to donate over $250,000 worth of prescription eyeglasses to various high school students in the GTA in Q3/Q4 2008. They will be distributed to children who lack prescription glasses.
Importance of Our Eyeglass Donation :
• Over 1 billion people across the world need eyeglasses but cannot afford them.

• In Africa, 50% of children in institutions for the blind would be able to read normal or large print if they had eyeglasses
• The price for glasses in Benin and other African countries can exceed three months' average salary
